My New Office/Music Room
My family and I recently purchased a new home, a 2-bedroom condo in Longmont, CO.
Since it only had the 2 bedrooms, we needed to finish part of the basement for an office....Immediately!
In the meantime, I had been giving lessons out of a temporary office space in the living room, and it
took a while to feel settled in our new home.
Scroll down to see its evolution.
Framing
My friend Brett came out from Michigan to help me frame the room.
Okay, so he had to teach me how, first!!!!
It was alot of fun, and I learned alot. We got the entire room framed in a single day.
Man, were we ever sore!!!
Insulation
As the outside walls were already insulated (notice the white insulation behind the left wall),
we only needed to insulate one wall (which adjoins to the next unit over)
and the ceiling, for sound.
Drywall
I hired out all of the drywall work.
What a mess!!
Here it is hung.....
And here it is finished and textured, ready to paint.....(pay no attention to the smoke detector hanging in the foreground)
Painting
At this point, Lindsey got into the act, as well. Here she is helping me prime the walls for paint.
We were a bit skeptical about how dark the tinted primer was, but the salesman at Sherwin-Williams assured me that it would work just fine.
The Return of Eugene the Bouncing Cyber-Hippie...(an inside joke from my r-n-r band days)
And here is Lindsey helping me paint. We had a great time, and she was a huge help......
Yes, Beck helped, too!!
Except for a few spots that need touching up, the painting is finished. All we need now is carpet and trim.
And so here it is with the carpet and trim.
A neighbor helped me get this monster of a desk in, what a pain in the............!!
Finally, we're all moved in!!
The only thing left to do in these pictures was the window sill, which we had not yet painted.
It definitely feels like my office, as you can see it's already pretty cluttered.
Chuck, this picture is specifically for you and Mrs. CS...
Thanks for the pillow, it now has a happy home. Go Wings!!!!!
My wife, of course, disagrees...She is not happy with the pillow, and I agree that it doesn't really match the colors of the room.
But that's OK, I've got to declare my allegiance, especially out here in Avalanche Country.
I usually keep a couple of bar-stool sized chairs along with a music stand in the room.
There is plenty of space to practice comfortably, and even have a couple of other musicians over, as well.
It's been quite a project. I learned a lot and I've gotta say, it was actually pretty fun.
It's quite a feeling of accomplishment to hang out in a room that I helped build.
